Today, I gave in and read my first proper article about Sochi.
Usually, I tune out all the chatter until after it's all over and, there's a line in Memoirs of a Geisha that sums up my reason much more concisely and profoundly than I ever could. It goes -
“I don't think any of us can speak frankly about pain until we are no longer enduring it.”
For Olympic Host Countries it's most likely equal parts pain and sheer terror, though - can you imagine the logistics of all the forced teamwork it takes to pull off something on this scale?
I'd be half past crazy by the time the torch was lit but, that's probably more to do with the fact that teamwork gives me the heeby jeebies. *shudder*
Anyway, that is why I have nothing but love and crossed fingers for the peeps who decide to take this sort of thing on.
Also, it seems like most funny stories start with an uncomfortable situation - we just have to wait for the Closing Ceremony : p
